I have been involved in technical theatre for 25 years.
Starting in secondary school and local amateur dramatics at 15, I went to college and studied for my BTECH National Diploma in Performing Arts - Theatre Technology.
From there I went straight into the industry, working in small regional theatres and large-scale receiving theatres.
In 2012 I decided to go freelance and worked in the corporate sector, providing services for parties, conventions and corporate events. I was also operating in the concert touring sector, operating shows for international concert tours, festivals and musical theatre tours. This would take me all over the world and taught me a lot of new skills.
Over the course of my career I have acquired skills by working in almost every discipline in the industry.
Working in small theatres requires a lot of flexibility and gave me a broad knowledge of the industry. Working in larger venues and on larger shows gave me the ability to specialise in specific areas. Primarily I specialised in sound and lighting (both very separate areas in the industry rather than a general term for both), but I have a wealth of experience in rigging, flying, AV (projection, graphics, displays), Stage Management and special effects.
As well as my national qualifications, I also have a good number of industry qualifications which I am pretty proud of. The entertainment industry is largely a 'learn on the job' affair but occasionally it's nice to be able to prove what you know.
I currently hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate and I am fully insured.
